The SCPA Art Department Partners to Create the New Wall of Education Mural

Art Works, Cincinnati Public Schools, the SCPA Art Department and Pro Kids are creating the New Wall of Education Mural that will grace the CPS Board of Education Wall on the Corner of Taft and Burnett.Althea Thompson, Chairperson of the SCPA Visual Arts Department and Adrienne Thompson, National Board Certified Art Teacher worked as youngsters on the original mural, and are the lead artists on the new mural. ArtWorks, partnering with ProKids and CPS, will employ 12 apprentice artists including 3 students from SCPA and an SCPA alumnus to work on the mural, plus hire a team of professional artists and educators to provide mentorship and guidance. The new design will highlight core academics, the arts, career technical education and physical education. Each panel of the mural will feature a composite of children from SCPA, CPS and Pro Kids. The Mural depicts the evolving aspirations of our Cincinnati Youth ranging from Pre school through High School. Between each panel are guardian columns that portray adults who will inspire our children to succeed. Students have been working on the mural since July 5th and the mural is expected to be completed by August 16th.
