Live theatre and music stole Jeff’s soul while he was a student at the University of Tennessee, and he has been intoxicated by their power to create a smaller, more peaceful world ever since.
Mr. New began his journey in Knoxville, Tennessee working at the Bijou Theatre in as Asst. Tech Director in 1986 before becoming Tech Director of the Tennessee Amphitheatre in 1989. Rock and Roll called to Mr. New via Bandit Lites Inc. in 1990 where he spent 10 years traveling the world. Past credits include lighting designer for David Byrne’s “Feelings” World Tour, Dan Fogelberg’s “Solo 95” Tour, Collective Soul’s “ Collective Soul” Tour, and as Lighting Crew Chief for R.E.M.’s “Up” Tour before retiring from the road.
Mr. New learned the business end of the lighting profession from Dick Hogle at Hogle’s Theatrical in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Designing and producing for lighting for corporate, entertainment, and theatre both large and small, before moving to Cincinnati with his wife Patty in the summer of 2001. He began teaching at SCPA in the fall of 2002. Design credits here in town include “Always… Patsy Cline” 2005 NKU Summer Dinner Theatre and Performance Gallery’s “ Gilgamesh in Uruk: G.I. in Iraq” 2007.
